Know Thine Enemy 11

The scriptures and truths in this article were either provided or inspired by my Pastor, Kent McBay. Recently, he very wisely said that we should think about what we think about.

Satan wants the Holy Spirit to have no influence upon our minds. He wants us to quench, grieve and resist the Holy Spirit. He can win no victories when we are filled with the Spirit. When we are filled with the Spirit and walking in the Spirit, our thoughts will be godly. When we are filled with the Spirit we will not just talk the talk, we will walk the walk.

Ephesians 5:18: And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Romans 8:1: There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Romans 8:4: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Galatians 5:25: If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:16: This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

2 Corinthians 10:3-4: For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

Our carnal minds are strong holds of Satan that God can pull down. Our minds naturally think about temporal (temporary) things, things of this life. When we consider how much longer eternity is than our lives, thoughts about eternal things should be more important to us.

2 Corinthians 4:18: While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Colossians 3:2: Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Your affections will be the things you think about the most.

1 John 2:15-17: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

We ought to be far-sighted. We ought to think more about eternal things than things that will pass away. The most important things to think about in this life are the things that will make a difference FOREVER. The Apostle Paul thought about eternal things and had eternal goals.

Philippians 3:13-16: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

We might think that our thoughts are just little sins that we are not responsible for. We don*t think correctly about the enormity of our sins. What makes our sins horrible are that they are committed against a great God. It doesn*t look to us like Adam and Eve*s sin of eating the wrong fruit was a great sin but it was.

Genesis 3:6: And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

I don*t know how Eve concluded that the tree was good for food. Perhaps she saw the serpent eating from it and he did not die. Adam and Eve did some wrong thinking before they ate that fruit.
